Listeria outbreak is deadliest in 25 years

The recent listeria outbreak caused by contaminated cantaloupes from Jensen Farms in Colorado has been determined to be the deadliest listeria outbreak in 25 years.

Currently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked 23 deaths and 109 illnesses to the cantaloupes contaminated with listeria bacteria.  The cantaloupes were recalled last month and subsequently removed from store shelves, but symptoms of listeriosis can take up to 2 months to appear.

11 people from Oklahoma have reported contracting listeriosis after consuming the recalled cantaloupes.  Individuals infected with listeriosis can experience symptoms including fever, headache, gastrointestinal problems, stiff neck, muscle pains, and convulsions.
