A man from Achille, Oklahoma was seriously injured Friday in a car accident on Highway 78.
According to officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 34 year-old Michael Leon Coble, was transported to the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma with severe injuries to his head, arm, and leg. Police officials say Coble was speeding southbound in his Pontiac car shortly after 8:10 a.m. when he attempted to pass in a no-passing zone on a curve. Rounding the curve, Coble encountered an oncoming vehicle, swerved to the right, driving off the roadway, over corrected and ran off the left side of the street, where it rolled over one time.
Coble’s son, 14 year-old Michael Tanner Coble, was a passenger in the car at the time, but was not injured, police say. The teen was wearing his seat belt.
Police say the older Coble was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper David McCutcheon’s report cites reckless driving and speeding as the causes of the crash.
