Driver injured after being rear-ended on I-44

TULSA, OK – A person was injured when their vehicle was struck from behind on I-44 near Harvard Ave Thursday, Tulsa World reports.

Edgar Chicoj, 25, was broke down in the eastbound lane of I-44 when the driver of another vehicle plowed into his car from behind.

First responders were called to the scene of the crash around 5:50 a.m. They transported Chicoj to an area hospital with multiple injuries.

Fatal 3-vehicle crash reported on I near Peebly Rd

RIDGEVIEW ESTATES, OK – A fatal collision involving three vehicles near Peebly Rd on I-40 took the life of a man Friday, Guthrie News Page reports.

Jake Sing, 23, was driving a Hyundai Elantra when he rear-ended a Subaru Outback parked on the right shoulder. The impact sent the Elantra into the right lane, where a Toyota Tundra struck it.

First responders were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. They transported Sing to OU Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the Tundra drove themselves to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

OHP troopers are investigating the case.

Fatal single-vehicle crash reported on N Enterprise Rd

NEWKIRK, OK – According to KFOR, a fatal single-vehicle crash was reported on N Enterprise Rd Tuesday.

Police say that a juvenile, who was possibly impaired, was driving a Jeep Wrangler when the wreck happened around 10:45 p.m.\

First responders transported a  male 17-year-old and a male 18-year-0ld to the hospital. The 17-year-old died. The 18-year-old is in critical condition. The driver of the Wrangler was not injured.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident.

Driver killed in rear-end crash on I-40

EL RENO, OK – According to KOKO, a driver died after he rear-ended a vehicle on I-40.

The 56-year-old male driver was parked on the north shoulder of I-40 in a Toyota Prius. For an unknown reason, the driver went off-road and slammed into the back of a Volvo.

The collision pinned the victim underneath the Volvo. Fire crews were dispatched to the crash site around 5:15 a.m. It took them around two hours to extricate the victim from the wreckage.  Investigators believe he died upon impact.

Neither of the two occupants of the Volvo was hurt in the incident.

The exact location on I-40 where the car crash happened is unclear.

Authorities will release the victim’s name once they have notified his next of kin.

Update: Police identify victim who crashed at NE 23rd St and Sooner Rd

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Police have identified the woman who died at the hospital following a crash at NE 23rd St and Sooner Rd Monday, News 9 reports.

Susanna Scheiler, 77, was a passenger in the back seat of an SUV that collided with another vehicle around 11:30 a.m. The SUV occupied by Scheiler continued north after the crash before it went into a pond.

The driver and another passenger were able to escape the SUV through the sunroof. A dive team extricated Scheiler from the back seat of the vehicle. They then performed CPR on her and transported all three people to an area hospital, where Scheiler later died.

Authorities have not released details concerning the condition of the other people involved in the crash.

Update: Man charged in connection to fatal OK-33 crash

EDMOND, OK – A man has been charged in connection to a fatal car crash at OK 33 and Pennsylvania Ave that killed Barbara Heflin, 79, on January 19, Guthrie News Page reports.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Mark Gellenbeck, 32, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-250 on westbound OK 33 prior to the crash.

As Gallenbeck approached the intersection with Pennsylvania Ave, he attempted to reach for something in the passenger seat, causing his vehicle to drift into the eastbound lanes and collide with Heflin’s Chevrolet Impala.

First responders pronounced Heflin dead at the scene of the accident around 10:30 a.m.

Gellenbeck’s bond is set at $5000.

 


Update: Police release description of fatal hit-and-run drivers

The pedestrian was struck in the southbound lanes of Walker Ave near SW 59th St. One of the vehicles is believed to be a Chevy Malibu or similar vehicle. The second vehicle is described as a dark-colored sedan.

Fatal motorcycle crash reported on I-44

TUTTLE, OK – A fatal motorcycle crash was reported on southbound I-44 south of Tuttle on Tuesday, Fox 25 reports

Philip Hawk, 56, was operating the motorcycle and Terri Hawk, 59, was his passenger. For reasons unknown, the bike rolled over on its side. Philip was thrown from the vehicle while Terri was pinned underneath it.

Terri had been freed from the vehicle by a bystander before first responders arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Philip was hospitalized in fair condition.

The cause of the crash and the time it occurred is unclear.
