Yamaha motorcycles with defective wheels recalled

Yamaha is recalling their motorcycles in the U.S. due to defective wheel assembly caused by a manufacturing fault, Motorcycle USA stated on December 4.

In the recall letter forwarded to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) Yamaha said that the aluminum used in the 2014 YZF-R6 motorcycles was weak. Problems like wheel deformation and wheel bearing misalignment may occur in bikes that were manufactured last August. Though only 28 motorcycles were recalled, all of them are estimated to be affected. Yamaha will address the issue by replacing the wheel assemblies of the affected motorcycles at no cost.
