2 hospitalized after house fire kills 5 cats in SW Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Two people were injured in a residence fire that killed five cats early Friday morning in Oklahoma City’s Southwestern neighborhood, according to NewsOn6.

The incident occurred at a house near Southwest 59th Street and South Blackwelder Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m.

According to the Oklahoma City Fire Department, the flames began in an addition near the back of the home when a lamp was pushed over near a sofa.

One person tried to use a fire extinguisher on the blaze, but was not able to put out the flames.

That person and one other patient were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. The severity of their condition remains unknown.

Fire crews said five cats who were in the residence at the time died as a result of the fire.

Property damage to the home is estimated to be at around $60,000.
