20-year-old dead after trying to swim across Atoka Co. quarry

CANEY, OK (ATOKA COUNTY) – A young man drowned yesterday while attempting to swim across a quarry in Atoka County, according to KFOR.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. at the Dolese rock quarry in Caney.

The victim, 20-year-old Elijah Moore, of Durant, swam around 300 yards across the 400-yard-wide quarry before submerging beneath the water.

His body was discovered about four hours later by authorities using sonar.
