NEWCASTLE, OK  – One man was taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in Newcastle Tuesday morning.

According to the Chickasha Express-Star, the accident took place at about 11:30 a.m. as the driver of the semi attempted to merge onto I-44.

The semi was rear-ended by a pickup truck in the process of merging into the freeway. The semi swerved to the left, colliding with an SUV that was also traveling west on the interstate.

The driver of the pickup, 60-year-old Joseph Thompson, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to OU Medical Center with a serious leg injury.
