Air conditioner sparks house fire in Lawton

LAWTON, OK – Firefighters in Lawton were called to the scene of a major house fire that spread to a neighboring home on Tuesday.

According to the Lawton Constitution, the fire broke out at a residence within the 1200 block of Southwest 23rd Place.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was caused by a window-unit air conditioner when it overheated and caught fire, spreading to the curtains inside the home.

Strong winds in the area blew the flames to a neighboring home, burning the side of the structure. Crews were able to knock down the fire, which rendered the first home unlivable, after a few minutes.

One occupant in the first house was able to escape but was injured in the process. No other injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
