Driver dead after crashing vehicle during police pursuit in Lawton

LAWTON, OK (COMANCHE COUNTY) – A driver was killed when he crashed his vehicle while reportedly being pursued by Lawton police yesterday morning, according to KOCO News.

The crash happened on Sheridan Road at about 3:35 a.m. as a police officer was pursuing the driver of a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro, who was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

The pursued driver lost control of his vehicle, then went off the side of the road. There, he collided with a curb and a mailbox before crashing into an embankment across Jefferson Avenue.

The Camaro overturned multiple times, then smashed into a vacant van and trailer and a fence. It finally landed upside-down.

The driver of the Camaro, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.

The cause of the pursuit was not immediately available.

The officer was not hurt in the crash.
