Elderly driver strikes, injures 2 in Pittsburg Co. construction zone

PITTSBURG CO., OK – An elderly driver struck and injured two pedestrians in a construction zone southeast of Crowder this morning, Tulsa World reports.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Blocker Road and Acorn Lane, where a construction project had reduced the area to a single lane. An 84-year-old driver failed to stop as instructed, colliding with two men and a parked car. It is unclear whether the men were affiliated with the work site.

One of the men, a 25-year-old Tulsan, was flown to a hospital in Tulsa in serious condition. The other, a McAlester resident, was transported by ambulance to a local facility. Their current conditions are unknown.

The 84-year-old driver was unhurt. Investigators believe inattentive driving caused the crash.
