Innocent Oklahoma City man killed after suspect crashes into pickup truck

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A man from Oklahoma City was killed last Thursday after a police chase ended in a deadly crash on I-40.

According to News 9, the incident occurred at about 11:40 p.m. when troopers attempted to stop 20-year-old James Cawthorne for speeding on I-40.

Cawthorne then attempted to flee police reaching speeds upwards of 100 mph. Police continued to chase the man for several miles until he crashed into a pickup truck on I-35 near Northeast 10th Street.

The driver of the pickup truck, 38-year-old Cory Coffey was pronounced dead at the scene. Cawthorne was taken into custody on a number of charges related to the incident.
