SALLISAW, OK – A juvenile was taken to a Tulsa hospital after being thrown from an ATV in Sallisaw Tuesday evening.

According to 5 News, the victim was riding in a Ranger ATV along County Road 4560 when they swerved to avoid striking a dog in the road.

The driver hit the dog before swerving further to the right, causing the passenger to be ejected. The passenger suffered a critical head injury and was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

Troopers with the OHP say both riders were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
