A man was critically injured in an Oklahoma car accident early Sunday.

According to officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the three-vehicle accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 shortly after 4:00 a.m. Troopers say 26 year-old Shawnee-resident Richard Lewis was driving a 1998 Dodge Dakota westbound in the eastbound lanes when he collided with a 2001 International driven by 33 year-old Noe Saldana, of Phoenix.

According to the accident report, Lewis was transported by ground ambulance to OU Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. He sustained trunk internal and trunk external injuries, the report said.

Saldana was not injured in the accident.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, according to the troopers’ report.
