Off-duty OCPD officer killed in crash on I-44 near SW Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A 31-year-old Oklahoma City police officer died early Thursday in a head-on collision on Interstate 44 near southwest Oklahoma City, according to The Oklahoman.

The fatal wreck occurred on the northbound interstate near Southwest 44th Street, near the Treadwell Hills area.

A preliminary investigation indicates the off-duty officer was driving northbound when a southbound vehicle veered left and traveled over the center guardrail. Moments later, it struck the officer’s vehicle head-on.

The officer was pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.

Police said the other driver suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening.

At this time, no pending charges or citations have been reported.

An investigation remains ongoing.
