Fire Department responds to collision with gas meter

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A vehicle collided with a gas meter in northwest Oklahoma City this morning, prompting a response from the fire department and a natural gas company.

KFOR-TV reports that the collision occurred at NW 36th Street and N Portland Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. While initial reports suggested that the vehicle had crashed into a residential building, emergency responders soon found that it had instead collided with a gas meter after hopping a curb.

Firefighters and workers with Oklahoma Natural Gas shut off the medium-pressure gas line. No evacuations were necessary.

The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene before emergency crews arrived. Authorities do not believe they were injured.
