Update: OHP seeks details on driver behind fatal I-40 crash

EL RENO, OK – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is requesting information from the public regarding the fatal accident that killed four people on I-40 Saturday.

Authorities believe that 33-year-old Ashley Louise Ricks was intoxicated when she crashed her 2017 Jeep Renegade head-on into a 2003 Hyundai, killing its four occupants. The collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-40 near Country Club Road.

According to News 9, police had been unable to question Ricks as of that evening, because she was still in intensive care at the time. They’re asking anyone who may have seen Ricks earlier that evening to come forward with information about her behavior in the hours leading up to the crash.

EL RENO, OK (CANADIAN COUNTY) – A woman may have been intoxicated when she crashed her vehicle in a wrong-way crash near El Reno that may have resulted in the death of a teenage girl and three other people early this morning, investigators say.

According to KFOR, the accident happened on I-40 near El Reno at about 1:37 a.m. when Moore woman Ashley Louise Ricks, 33, crashed her 2017 Jeep Renegade into a 2003 Hyundai in a head-on collision. The Jeep landed upside-down into a nearby ditch, and the Hyundai collided with a median before catching on fire.

Authorities are attempting to determine if Ricks was intoxicated at the time, as she had been driving the wrong way on the highway for over 10 miles.

Three adults died at the scene. A teenage girl was taken to the hospital in El Reno, and there she was pronounced dead. All four victims were occupants of the Hyundai.

Ricks was brought to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, where she is receiving treatment for critical injuries, including those to the leg, arm, and internal organs.

Authorities are searching for anyone who may have information on the crash or on Ricks’ whereabouts last night.
