Police: Tulsa hit-and-run may be related to fatal crash

BROKEN ARROW, OK – Police believe that a hit-and-run accident that resulted in minor injuries may be related to a fatal single-vehicle accident that took place in southeast Tulsa this weekend.

This is an update to our previous reporting.

Two Bixby High School students received minor injuries Saturday night when their vehicle was hit by a red sports car that had run a red light at 101st Street and Mingo Road. Rather than stopping, the vehicle pulled a U-turn and headed west on 101st.

A few minutes later, a Chevrolet Camaro hit a tree on 101st between Sheridan and Yale Avenues. The vehicle caught fire and exploded, killing its driver, who has since been identified as 29-year-old Johnathan Garcia. Police believe Garcia may have been the driver who hit the two high school students.

Hit-and-run victim was bribed by drunk driver

A hit-and-run accident that took place on Tuesday in Oklahoma City led to a driver getting arrested on several charges, including driving under the influence.

The accident took place at the intersection of Interstate 240 and South Eastern Avenue. A 60-year-old driver said he was hit by another vehicle around 10 p.m. that night. When he got out of his car to exchange information, the driver who caused the accident attempted to bribe him with money before leaving the scene.

The 60-year-old followed the intoxicated driver until authorities could pull him over. Open beer cans were found in the man’s car, and his BAC was o.17, which is more than two times the legal limit. No one was seriously injured in the collision.
