OKC man sentenced to life imprisonment for fatal 2018 crash

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – An Oklahoma City man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Oklahoma County judge after being found guilty of killing two people in a fatal 2018 crash, reports KFOR.

Officials say Charles Greenfield was driving high when the fatal accident occurred in November 2018. Greenfield reportedly crashed his silver car in a head-on collision with a taxi near Northeast 23rd Street and Bryant Avenue. Exie Ervin, a passenger in Greenfield’s vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the taxi, 78-year-old Neil Thurston, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

Officials with the Oklahoma City Police Department stated Greenfield displayed strong signs of being impaired by an illegal drug. This drug was later determined to be PCP.

Greenfield was arrested for nine felony charges, including driving without a valid license, second-degree murder, and causing an accident resulting in great bodily injury.

On Wednesday, December 16th, Greenfield was sentenced to two life sentences by Judge Amy Palumbo. She says each one represent a life taken by the suspect. Another 20 years were added for injuring a taxi passenger James Downs, who is reportedly still recovering after several surgeries.

Judge Palumbo also noted the sentencing was influenced by Greenfield’s 2015 and 2016 DUI’s.
