13-year old OKC girl suffers 2nd degree burns in school science experiment

A 13-year old middle school girl from Oklahoma City recently suffered second degree burns on her face, neck, and hands when a science experiment at her school went wrong.

Reports indicate that the teacher was performing the experiment when some chemicals exploded and splashed onto the teen.  The teacher and no other students were injured in the accident.

A burn blanket and fire extinguisher were used to put out the fire.  Investigators are looking into what went wrong to cause the accident and if proper safety procedures were followed.

The girl spent weeks in the hospital after the accident and will need reconstructive surgery. The teenager’s family say they are having difficulty paying for the medication required to treat the girl’s burn injuries and keep them from blistering.
