Oklahoma prison inmates hospitalized due to salmonella contamination

At least seven inmates in an Oklahoma prison were hospitalized over the last few weeks after they were found to have contracted salmonella, a report by Tulsa World stated on Saturday, November 23.

According to Department of Corrections spoke person Jerry Massie, who has said the contamination is unusual, they have not figured out the total number of inmates who have become sick from the bacteria contamination. Massie said at least 47 women inmates at Eddie Warrior Correctional Center and at least 37 inmates from the Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center had salmonella symptoms.Other incidents of contamination were also reported from two other Correctional Centers, Massie said.

The Oklahoma Health Department is currently working to figure out the source of the harmful contaminant.
