OSHA: Over 10,000 people suffered serious workplace injuries in 2015

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) stated that 10,388 workers sustained severe injuries in their workplace last year, thousands of which resulted in amputations, a March 19 article of KOCO reported.

According to the March 17 OSHA report, 2,644 of the overall recorded workplace injuries in 2015 resulted in amputations. It was also revealed that 7,636 of injured workers required hospitalization. Though OSHA identified the manufacturing industry as the workplace with the “highest proportion of accidents”, they also found that accidents are frequent in transportation, construction, oil and gas extraction, and warehousing industries. OSHA last year implemented a mandatory system for employers to report incidents of serious injuries occurring in the workplace. However, OSHA estimated that nearly half of recorded injuries in 26 states went unreported.

Two killed, one injured in Edmond industrial accident

Two construction workers were killed and another one suffered serious injuries due to an industrial accident in Edmond, Fox 25 reported on September 20.

Edmond Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe stated that the accident happened at Old Towne Lofts on September 19. A forklift reportedly toppled over and killed siblings, Daniel and Michael Birney. A third worker, whose name was withheld, reportedly was taken to the hospital for serious injuries resulting from the accident. Monroe said the three people were on a platform raised several meters while doing work at the condo complex when the incident occurred. OSHA is investigating the fatal work-related accident.
